Scenes from a camping trip
Earlier this summer, Scot and I were able to escape for a few days to the Uintas for a camping trip. It wasn't a photography trip, but it also was not not a photography trip. It's hard to be outside without a camera, even if it's just my phone on a dog walk.
Interesting shadows as dog leashes wrap around my legs
All we planned to do was relax in nature. We napped, we sat outside listening to new bird calls, watched cute baby ground squirrels, and chatted with our awesome camp neighbors about the moose who wandered through our camp in the morning.

We didn't go on any aggressive hikes since I have a little injury I'm working on fixing, but I toddled around enough to get some images.
I think these are called corn lilies. I recently read Sarah Marino and Ron Coscorrosa’s book “Beyond the Grand Landscape,” so these are obviously rip-offs. But it was fun to try to find interesting shapes, work with the light, and practice getting my tripod set up in weird angles with my lens sticking into plants to get the shot.

We took a stroll around Mirror Lake, where I enjoyed working on these reflection images. Also not an original photographic concept, but very engaging to practice. I came away with hundreds of images, these are just a couple that I liked.

Two interesting pine arrangements…the trees in the neighboring campsite started to glow after sunset. And another tree had a strange branch hanging away from its main trunk, overloaded and heavy with baby pine cones.

And then finally, the view from our tent. It was a lovely camping trip and I can’t wait to go back, and maybe next time not screw up the milky way shot I’d lined up, ok?
HAPPY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY!!!!!
